Barvas and Brue Historical Society was founded in 1995 and aims to promote an active interest in history, heritage and the culture of the Barvas and Brue area of the Isle of Lewis.

The Historical Society publish a quarterly newsletter, “Fios a’ Bhaile” 

Archive collections

  • Oral recordings of stories and tales from local people
  • Photograph collections and local archive material
  • Gaelic place name mapping
  • Barvas School photograph collection 1912-2012

The Society also built their own model sheiling which is taken to local shows and used as an education tool.
