Back Historical Society

Gress, district of Back

Back Historical Society in its current form was established in 2018. Its aim is to preserve and share all aspects of the history, culture and traditions of the Back area in the Isle of Lewis. A historical society had previously existed from 1984 until the late 1990s.

Comann Eachdraidh Sgìre a’ Bhac meets monthly to discuss projects and also organises local lectures and events in Gaelic and English.

The Society does not have premises at the moment and is not therefore currently collecting physical archives. It does however collect information in relation to specific projects, and copies of photographs in digital format. The Society is also interested in old film of the district, which it can digitise.
