Heritage groups | Comainn Eachdraidh
The Comainn Eachdraidh (Historical Society) movement in the Western Isles is well developed. Most regional areas have a voluntary-lead Comann Eachdraidh whose work has included collecting genealogies, photographs, oral histories, artefacts and archives. These collections are immensely detailed and reflect local communities and their cultures in a way unsurpassed elsewhere in Scotland or the UK.
Additionally, there are other notable bodies including the Hebridean Connections, the Islands Book Trust, Angus Macleod Archive, Northton Heritage Trust and Western Isles Transport Preservation Group.
